B.Ed Course Overview

B.Ed stands for Bachelor of Education and is a 2-year degree program offered by various government & private colleges across the country. It is one of the mandatory degrees for those who want to make a career in the field of teaching.

The B.Ed course is designed for those who want to teach at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. This course helps students develop a wide sense of teaching & you will learn a lot of techniques that will help you become a better teacher.

Also, you should compulsorily have a bachelor’s degree in education, if you want to start a career as a teacher in any government or private institution.

B.Ed Syllabus

The syllabus of B.Ed is divided into four semesters as the course length is of 2 years. Each year comprises two semesters, thus four semesters in total.

B.Ed 1st Year Syllabus

In the first year of the bachelor of education, there are two semesters. In the first semester, you will have subjects like Childhood & Growing Up, Contemporary India, and Language across the curriculum & understand various disciplines & subjects.

The second semester however consists of Learning & Teaching, Pedagogy of subjects of your choice (Mathematics, Science, History, etc.), knowledge, curriculum & assessment for learning.

B.Ed 2nd Year Syllabus

In the second year of Bachelor of Education, the third semester is dedicated to learning Part 2 of Pedagogy followed by a School Internship (in which students have to do at least 15 days of teaching in a recognized school). 

The fourth semester however consists of three main courses (Gender, School & Society, Part 2 of Knowledge & Curriculum, and Creating an Inclusive School) & one optional course that may contain any vocational subjects or pedagogy course.
